The strong momentum associated with electric mobility has brought with it an increase in R&D for industrial solutions gravitating around the electrification market. Within this scenario, P-Duke's RCD series is among the most popular DC-DC Converter families in the rail electric mobility market and not only. The 10, 15 and 20W DC-DC converters already presented last year are now joined by new features and certifications.

Let's take stock of the 20W and 30W RCD series offered by Digimax.

DC-DC converter P-Duke RCD30W - Digimax

High-performance 30W DC/DC converter, EN 50155 approved

The RCD30W series represents the highest performance family of 30W DC/DC converters for railway and industrial applications. The series is offered in 4:1 input voltage ranges of 9-36V, 18-75V and 36-160V, thus perfectly matching the supply voltages of rolling stock equipment as well as heavy industry applications.

The RCD30W is available in single and dual output with output voltages of 3.3, 5, 5.1, 12, 15, 24, ±12, ±15 and ±24V and is equipped with circuitry for over- and undervoltage, overcurrent, short-circuit and overtemperature protection.

The high efficiency, guaranteed up to 92%, allows very low power losses and allows for natural convection heat sink operating temperatures of up to 73°C; thanks to this, it was possible to meet the criteria of operating temperature class OT4, according to EN 50155. The codes with reference 'M3' also refer to a specific option that allows the converter to operate at extremely low starting temperatures, down to -55°C; in this case, the structure of the entire converter has been designed and conceived for railway and industrial applications that are particularly demanding in terms of thermal resistance and reliability.

This DC converter series is certified to IEC/EN/UL 62368-1, EN 50155 and EN 45545-2 standards, while shock and vibration resistance levels comply with EN 61373 and MIL-STD-810F. The operating altitude of up to 5000 metres, the wide operating temperature range and the 4:1 input voltage range are optimal features offering reliability and durability. The main features are detailed below:

  • 30W Output Power in a 1"x1" Industrial Standard Package
  • Approved to EN 50155| EN 45545-2| IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 Standards
  • 4:1 Input Voltage Range from 9-36V, 18-75V, and 36-160V
  • Operating Temperature: -40°C to +105°C (Optional -55°C to 105°C)
  • 3000VDC Input-Output Isolation
  • Operating Altitude: up to 5000m
  • 3-Year Product Warranty

Rail-approved 20W DC/DC converter with patented hold-up function

The RCD20U represents the new DC/DC converter offering up to 20W of power. Designed in a compact 1" x 1" and format, 8:1 and 12:1 input voltage range (9-75VDC and 14-160VDC), this allows the use of a single DC/DC converter model for different supply voltages (24, 28, 36, 48, 72, 96 and 110VDC).

The RCD20U DC/DC converter has a patented hold-up function, designed to simplify the design of power supply interruption and switching according to EN 50155. Generally, capacitors must be installed in order to keep the device in operation during supply voltage interruption. The BUS pin of the RCD20U provides a stable charging voltage that allows the use of a single hold-up capacitor for any input voltage, reducing the inrush current during start-up.
