HRP series Mean Well power supplies with 200% higher peak power

Industrial automation applications require more and more advanced products and thanks to the close collaboration with Mean Well, Digimax is proud to launch on the Italian market the new series HRP-N. The products proposed are HRP-150N, HRP-300N and HRP-600N: 150W, 300W and 600W with output voltages of 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V, the most common in industry.

Why choose the HRP Mean Well series



The industrial power supplies of the HRP series have been designed to offer a specific feature: this new series can provide a peak power equal to 200% of the rated power of the power supply, for a duration of 5 seconds. Thanks to this feature, the HRP series allows the inductive load (engine) to start reliably and without problems. In this way, during the design phase, it is not necessary to evaluate the purchase of a power supply oversized compared to the rated motor power, with a considerable saving in terms of price, size and weight.

What are the characteristics of the HRP series



Thanks to the technical features of the HRP series, these power supplies are ideal to manage and start electromechanical applications such as motors, pumps and actuators with a high peak power absorption to manage the start-up phase. The new HRP series can provide 200% peak power (up to 1200W with HRP-600N), perfectly overcoming this problem.

What are the possible applications for high peak power systems?



With economic development and industrial improvement, DC motors are more widely used than ever and play a key role in applications from home appliances to industrial equipment. In order to drive these motors, power supplies must be able to handle a high inrush current at startup, and in order to meet this characteristic there are several solutions:



Oversized power supply

It is common to purchase a 450W power supply to drive a 150W DC motor with 300% peak current. This solution involves higher cost and size.

More power supplies in parallel to increase power.

The second option is to connect several power supplies in parallel for load management. This solution involves higher costs and overall dimensions.

System optimisation to reduce inrush current

You can create a sequence to start the motors separately in order to reduce the inrush current. This may result in an unexpected startup mode that is not compatible with your application.

The best solution for motor drives is to have a single power supply that can handle continuous rated power and at the same time high inrush power while reducing cost and size. In order to meet these needs Mean Well has launched the HRP-N3 series, an AC-DC power supply capable of handling peak power of up to 350% for 5 seconds.

A robotic arm is a programmable mechanical device that has functions similar to a human arm and can be used to perform a specific task. The HRP-N3 series can provide up to 350% peak power for 5 seconds to meet transient power demands at motor startup.



The power supply for large printers

A large printer uses motors to drive the rollers. The equipment requires only a few hundred watts during the normal printing process, however, its transient power demand reaches more than 1,000 W when the rollers start running. The HRP-600N3 can fit this application perfectly and avoid excessive design.
