The use of SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) solutions has over the years become a cornerstone in the development of industrial 4.0 processes. What SCADA software is and how it works



Advantech WebAccess/SCADA is a browser-based SCADA software package for supervisory control, data acquisition and visualization. It is used to automate complex industrial processes and in situations where remote operations are required. In addition to traditional SCADA functions, WebAccess/SCADA has an HTML5-based WISE-PaaS/Dashboard that allows the display of multiplatform and cross-browser data. WebAccess/SCADA also provides open interfaces for the development of IoT applications for various vertical markets and serves as a gateway to edge data collection equipment to exchange data with cloud services using MQTT publishing and subscription methods.



A SCADA system must be flanked by a data acquisition system that makes it possible to collect information from the surrounding environment from which control personnel can deduce whether or not maintenance operations should be carried out. This function is performed by Advantech's ADAM and WISE series data acquisition modules that communicate through MQTT protocol and differ because the ADAM series operates through the network cable or serial and the WISE series in wireless mode. Finally, it is important to have an Ethernet Switch that builds and upgrades the network infrastructure and guarantees operation with extended temperature ranges from -20°C to +70°C / +85°C; thanks to PoE technology it will also be possible to set up power supply and connection on the same network cable.

Revamping and predictive maintenance at the base of Industry 4.0



The term Revamping refers to a process of renewal, modernization that is generally approached to the concept of the smart industry. Through the so-called Industry Plan 4.0 law, tax advantages and reductions have in fact been available for several years for companies that intend to carry out interventions on their production plants with a 4.0 perspective.
