Wireless IoT sensors: how monitoring works at temperatures as low as -200° C

The industrial wireless sensors dedicated to monitoring environments maintained at very low temperatures are used in order to maintain appropriate conditions during the storage and / or transport of delicate products. The professional IoT sensors proposed by Digimax, in addition to offering the possibility to monitor and record the temperature, can send notifications on the exceeding of predefined thresholds and generate automatic reports. The Efento devices are powered by a battery that guarantees maintenance-free operation for at least two years and can be managed with four applications (Efento Inspector, Efento Transport, Efento Logger and Efento Cloud). Communication between devices takes place via Bluetooth Low Energy technology, with smartphones, tablets or Efento Gateway. The maximum range of the sensor is about 100m in open spaces, with over 60,000 measurements recorded in memory.

What are the main characteristics of an IoT sensor?



Efento wireless temperature sensors are used in places that require the control and maintenance of a constant and very low ambient temperature. The temperature sensors communicate with smartphone or Efento Gateway with Bluetooth Low Energy technology for a maximum range of about 100 m in open space. The sensors also comply with European standards and directives and are marked with the CE mark.

How do IoT sensors work and with what technology?



The Efento temperature recorders, depending on the software used and the transmission method, can operate in 5 modes:

Efento Logger: this operating mode is used for long-term observation of temperature and humidity, as in the case of conservation of works of art. The Efento recorder placed in the room measures and saves the climatic conditions in its memory and automatically reports them in the Efento Logger application. This operating mode is also used in warehouses to document the storage conditions to producers: it is sufficient to download the data via smartphone once a month to generate a report and share it in the Cloud.

Efento Inspector: this mode is useful for continuous temperature monitoring. The sensor sends the measurements to the free Efento Inspector application (smartphone that acts as a "base station"). The smartphone records the temperature, analyzes the data and if the set alarm thresholds are exceeded, it alerts the user via SMS or e-mail. This temperature monitoring mode is used where any change in the environmental status can be critical such as in medical clinics, hospitals, health centers and cold rooms.

Efento Gateway LAN: in this mode, the sensor sends the data to the Gateway memory (not in the Cloud), thus making it available to the computers located in the same LAN network. A gateway can support up to several dozen loggers and save one million measurements in its memory. This mode allows data to be exported as a report and is often used for local supervision and reporting of production conditions and for temperature reporting in department stores (there is no alarm function).

Efento Cloud: is a reporting and alerting mode for large facilities. The data from the recorder is transferred to the gateway and from this directly to the Cloud platform, where it is saved and processed. This procedure provides the highest degree of security, reliability and data distribution. The use of the platform is subject to a license fee valid for five years for each connected recorder.

Efento Transport: it is used in moving conditions, where the temperature recorder constantly sends measurements to the driver's smartphone. If the preset parameters are exceeded, the driver is informed by an acoustic and visual alarm generated directly on his smartphone. On the way or after its completion, the driver can generate a transport temperature report in order to present it as a quality certificate. This mode is used in refrigerated vehicles for the transport of drugs, organs or food transport.
