Published : 11/14/2023 10:00:00

In the digital age, touchscreen displays have become an integral part of every sector, from industry to consumer products: however, the more intensive the use becomes, the more the screens become susceptible to scratches, stains and other forms of damage.

Properly protecting professional touch screens is therefore essential to repair them from wear and tear, ensuring their longevity over time and always optimal performance. Find out which professional solutions ensure correct protection of touch displays.

Let's take a closer look at touch technology

We have already talked about differences between resistive, capacitive and hover displays: resistive screens are cheaper, more resistant and have less innovative technology, while capacitive displays are considerably more widespread on the market thanks to modern PCAP multi-touch systems.

A PCAP touch screen is a capacitive screen that takes advantage of Projected Capacitive technology, now ubiquitous in the most common professional and consumer touchscreen displays. PCAP works through a layer of glass that covers the LCD panel, on which there are electrodes and capacitive sensors capable of detecting one or more touches.

PCAP displays are widely used in industrial automation, information technology and consumer electronics due to their advantageous features; here are the main ones:

  • Multi-touch: PCAP allows you to detect multiple simultaneous touch points and multi-touch inputs such as pinch-to-zoom, rotation and swipe with two or more fingers.
  • Sensitivity: these displays are highly sensitive and detect lighter and more precise touches, allowing for a much more fluid and responsive user experience.
  • Durability: with a native glass protection and the lack of moving mechanical parts, these screens are resistant to wear and to intensive use over time.
  • Interference: PCAP technology is less susceptible to external electrical interference than other technologies, providing greater reliability and accuracy.

Choose a protective lens cover

Investing in the purchase of a protective film for professional touchscreen displays can make a significant difference in the operational life of the product: the cover lens is an additional protective layer installed on the surface, made made of transparent material such as tempered glass or polycarbonate, which acts as a physical barrier between the surroundings and the screen.

A protective lens serves to protect the touchscreen from scratches, dirt, dust and external damage: it can also offer greater resistance to shocks and impacts, helping to prevent any failure of the display. The glass covers are in fact widely used in sectors with difficult environments or intensive use: medical, retail, logistics, transport and in general where the uninterrupted functionality of the devices is required.

An additional advantage in choosing the lens cover is the possibility of customization, both in terms of size and shape of the touchscreen, and to meet the design or branding requirements of the company: the protective covers for touch displays can in fact be designed with special finishes, particular colors or the inclusion of the company logo.

Apply a protective treatment to the glass

To increase the level of protection of the professional display, it is also possible to apply a treatment to the glass of the cover lens to offer an additional degree of resistance to chemical agents, viruses or bacteria, direct light, dirty or scratched. We cite for example:

  • Anti-glare films: Designed to eliminate reflections on the display surface caused by ambient light or direct light sources, improve screen visibility and reduce eye strain in bright light conditions.
  • Antibacterial films (or antimicrobial): treated with substances that inhibit the growth of bacteria, viruses and fungi on the surface, they are essential in healthcare environments or in applications where it is necessary to maintain the maximum possible hygiene.
  • Anti-Fingerprint Films: Designed to reduce the visibility of fingerprints on the touchscreen surface, they help keep the screen clear and clean.
  • UV rays films: particularly useful in outdoor environments or in applications exposed to direct sunlight, they allow you to block exposure to ultraviolet rays and protect the display from fading colors or damage the inner layers.

Such treatments make touch screens suitable for use in difficult and more specific sectors, such as the chemical industry, healthcare or food, in order to ensure a highly efficient working environment and to avoid device breakdowns and malfunctions .
