TFT LCD, acronym for Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display, is a technology developed for improve image quality and has countless consumer and industrial uses.

Specifically, within TFT monitors, liquid crystals allow faster and smoother state transitions while saving power, resulting in high image quality on the display, which appears without flickering or bright irregularities (unlike simpler LCD screens).

A touch-screen display is a type of screen that allows the user to interact with the operating system using their fingers, without having to use physical buttons. In industrial environments, a touch screen monitor is essential for direct operator interaction with systems and machines.

The main types of touch screens are the resistive touch screen and the capacitive touch screen.

Resistive touch monitors are the simplest and most economical technology, made from two layers of plastic covered with a conductive material and separated by an additional insulating layer. By exerting pressure, electrical contact is generated with the layer underneath, allowing the coordinates of the contact point to be plotted.

Capacitive touch screens are more modern and innovative, with an outer glass surface crossed by a uniform electric field that varies with the contact of the user's fingers. Importantly, thanks to this technology multi-touch is possible.

Graphic LCDs are born to be integrated into small to medium-sized solutions, are ideal for graphic view, and are simple and immediate to install.

With LCD technology, the properties of liquid crystals are used to modulate the passage of light beams from the plates located on the back of the device. The electrical contacts in these plates are then able to stress the pixels that make up the image inside the LCD module.

Character module display

What is a character module display

Character module displays are compact size displays widely used, especially in industrial sector. Using liquid crystal display (LCD) technology, this module is able to take advantage of the light modulation properties of liquid crystals using flat display technology.

Character module displays are usually offered in standard format: 8x1, 8x2, 12x2, 16x1, 16x2, 16x4, 20x2, 20x4, 24x2, 40x2, 40x4; individual modules are integrated into complex interfaces, with the aim of increasing readability and visualization. Digimax character module display solutions can be integrated with a large number of interface including 8080, SPI and I2C.

These modules represent major graphemes such as English/Japanese, European, Scandinavian, Cyrillic and Hebraic/Arabic. The color of LED backlight can be customized: yellow-green, white, blue, black and grey.

Digimax offers character module displays with standard 5V operating voltage and 3V or 3,6V options upon request.

How work alphanumeric LCD displays

The main technology used in alphanumeric LCD panels including TN, STN, FSTN standards; visualizations mode are of two types:

- Positive: with dark characters in light background;
- Negative: with light characters in dark background.

What are character OLED modules

Character OLED’s are compact display that are widely used, especially in industrial settings due to their operative temperature range of -40°C to +80°C.

Using OLED technology these modules are able to emit their own light by managing complex parameters such as contrast and hue.

Character displays have specific standard formats that are integrated within more complex interfaces.

Raystar character OLED display

Raystar's character OLED displays include the option in yellow and white, which are the two most important and recommended colors in terms of long display life and good readability.

Raystar character OLED display modules include COB and COG technologies. Both technologies involve a chip that controls the screen, but in COB (Chip on Board) technology the chip is installed directly on the motherboard; in COG (Chip on Glass) technology, however, the chip is directly bonded to the glass.
