Digimax technical partner for the Rhizoma contemporary art installation

Nature and technology, vegetal and digital connections are apparently part of worlds distant from each other that can still dialogue in synergy through art. This is the main objective of the Rhizoma exhibition, underway at the Atipografia Art Gallery in Arzignano, an immersion within the expressive possibilities of digital light in the natural environment.

The works on display, created by emerging contemporary artists of international fame, use digital light connections to create effects linked to the natural evolution of the plant world. The exhibition is a unique opportunity to discover the potential of LED light as an artistic tool.

Rhizoma contemporary installation - The meeting point between nature and technology

Rhizoma is represented by a series of multimedia installations, paintings and drawings that intend to deepen the symbiotic connection between the natural kingdom and the digital universe, highlighting the patterns, structures, synergies and interdependencies between the two worlds. To bring out these correspondences, the exhibition takes shape from the very concept of Rizoma. In botany, this term refers to the plant structure that grows underground with a multidirectional expansion, giving life to a real living network between plants.

Humans increasingly navigate a digitally connected landscape, making it critical to reflect on parallels with the natural realm. Drawing inspiration from the mycelial networks present in forests, which act as an essential communication system and distribution of nutrients for plants and trees, the exhibition seeks to illuminate the fascinating similarities with the mechanisms of the digital sphere.

When and where will the Rhizoma exhibition be accessible?

Rhizoma is the first personal installation in Italy by the artist Josh Rowell (Kent, 1990) curated by Andrea Maffioli and it will be possible to visit it from Saturday 7 October 2023 to Saturday 20 January 2024, in the spaces of the Atipografia gallery, Piazza Campo Marzio 26 in Arzignano (Vicenza).

How was it possible to support Rhizoma and with what technologies?

The Rhizoma installation was conceived with the idea of shedding light on the connections between the natural world and the digital world, through the use of a particular linear LED strip winner of 2021 reddot award. This special solution is particularly flexible and versatile, as well as perfect for creative lighting of environments with high ceilings and large spaces. Extruded silicone coating ensures uniform light distribution, superior protection and the ability to shape and mold conceptual and design shapes.

Thanks to ProtoPixel technology it was also possible to literally bring this installation to life, giving free rein to the artist's creativity. With the tools offered by the platform it is in fact possible to create dynamic atmospheres and lighting scenes, preview the project before even seeing its actual execution; this clearly halves installation times and margins of error, thanks also to the use of a series of adaptive presets provided within the development libraries. By following these steps it was possible to give the artist full control over every single pixel of the project, with an incredibly pervasive final result.
